Far from confining balance to merely its physical properties, Jan Kopp also examines the phenomenon from the angle of perceptive psychology, as an ensemble of fired clays of variable sizes testifies. Suspended or arranged in the manner of an inventory, these rounded objects seem to come from an archaeological dig, belonging to an archaic age. However, with their title of Gespenster (spectres), the installation leaves room for questioning and explores the fine line that separates the poetic from the worrisome. The more we look at them, the more the supposed archaeological vestiges come to resemble a military arsenal. Amphoras or shells, primitive sculptures or war missiles, Jan Kopp blurs his tracks and in their wake delivers theorists of the form, a demonstration of the existence of the preconscious aspects that influence our perception of the world.
