Artissima 2015, Turin, Italie
For Artissima, Koka Ramishvili questions one more time his pictural practice reactivating a fundamental artwork of 1990-1991, Gallery, exhibited at the Arnolfini Centre for Contemporary arts in Bristol. Realized at the moment where his native land, Georgia, undergoes quite hard the economic crisis and the civil war, this work also reflects the turning point of a page of the History - the end of Soviet Union and the independence of numerous states, including his. In these times of chaos and transformations, impossible for the artist to lock itself into his studio in front of the canvas and to paint. Gallery expresses the limit of the painting as regards the events and the quest of the truth. Playing with the void and the heap, it also embodies an artistic change for the artist who will dedicate himself during several years to photography and to video, two mediums closer to the reality.
